Influence of Special Environment on Motor Insulation

Temperature effect

Because of the high ambient temperature, the heat dissipation of the motor is affected and the output is reduced. High temperature and ultraviolet radiation can accelerate the aging of insulation materials, the relative humidity in dry and hot areas is sometimes reduced to 3%, and high temperature drying makes insulation dry, crepe, deformed and cracked. High temperature easily leads to the loss of glue filling, low temperature hardening of rubber and plastics, brittle cracking of pipes, freezing of lubricating grease and coolant.

Effects of high humidity and moisture

When the relative humidity is higher than 95%, the inner part of the motor often condenses water droplets, which makes the metal parts rust, grease moisture deterioration, some insulation materials moisture expansion, some soft stickiness, mechanical and electrical properties deterioration, insulation breakdown and surface flashover are easy to occur.

Mold effect

In the environment of high temperature and high humidity, mold is the most easy to grow. Mold secretions can corrode metal and insulation materials, make insulation aging rapidly and cause short circuit accidents.

Corrosive gases

In the chemical industry (including mine, chemical fertilizer, medicine, rubber, etc.) production sites, there are mainly more chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other gases, although the corrosion is small in dry air(maximum relative mixing less than 70% of the environment), in the humid air, they will form acidic, alkaline and other corrosion fog. Usually, when the relative humidity of air is not saturated and the surface of the product is condensed, the corrosion of metal parts and the deterioration of insulation properties will be greatly accelerated. Therefore, the influence of corrosive gas on motor products depends on the humidity of air and the properties of corrosive gas.
