Other techanical equipment transmission modes

1. Belt drive

Belt drive is a kind of mechanical transmission which uses flexible belt tensioned on pulley to carry out motion or power transmission. Belt drive is usually composed of driving wheel, follower wheel and ring belt tensioned on two wheels.

(1) It is used in the same direction of parallel rotation of two shafts, which is called open motion, center distance and envelope angle.

(2) The types of belts can be divided into three categories according to the shape of cross section, including flat belt, V belt and special belt.

(3) The emphasis of application includes the calculation of transmission ratio, the stress analysis and calculation of belt, and the allowable power of single V belt.

Advantages: it is suitable for transmission with large center distance between two shafts. Belt has good flexibility, can mitigate impact, and absorbs vibration. Skidding when overload to prevent damage to other parts, with simple structure and low cost.

Disadvantages: the outer profile of the transmission is large, and the tension device is needed. Because of skidding, the fixed transmission ratio can not be guaranteed, the life of the belt is short, and the transmission efficiency is low.

2. Chain transmission

Chain transmission is a kind of transmission mode through the motion and power of active sprocket with special tooth profile are transferred to the driven sprocket with special tooth profile, including active chain, follower chain, ring chain.

Advantages: compared with belt drive, it does not have elastic sliding and skidding phenomenon, the average transmission ratio is accurate, reliable and efficient, the transmission power is large, the overload capacity is strong, and the transmission size is small under the same working condition. The tension force is small, and the pressure acting on the shaft is small. It can work in the bad environment such as high temperature, humidity, dusty, pollution and so on. Compared with gear drive, chain drive is manufactured and safe. The accuracy requirement is low. When the center distance is large, the transmission structure is simple, the instantaneous chain speed and the instantaneous transmission ratio are not constant, and the transmission stability is poor.

Disadvantages: it can only be used for transmission between two parallel shafts, with high cost, easy wear, easy extension and poor transmission stability. Additional dynamic load, vibration, impact and noise will be produced during operation, so it is not suitable for rapid reverse transmission.
