The failure modes of chain drive
(1) When fatigue failure of chain plate is under the repeated action of loose side tension and tight side tension, the chain plate will suffer fatigue failure after a certain number of cycles. Under normal lubrication, the fatigue strength of chain plate is the main factor to limit the bearing capacity of chain drive.
(2) The impact fatigue of roller and sleeve destroys the rodent impact of chain drive, which is first borne by roller and sleeve. In the repeated impact, after a certain number of cycles, the roller and sleeve may have impact fatigue failure. This kind of failure mode mostly occurs in middle and high speed closed chain drive.
(3) If the pin shaft is not properly lubricated or the speed is too high, the working surface of the pin shaft and sleeve will be glued. The glue limits the ultimate speed of the chain drive.
